Jodie Skillicorn, DO, ABIHM is a holistic integrative psychiatrist who believes strongly in the body’s innate healing powers. In her virtual Ohio-based practice, she combines mindfulness and somatic-based psychotherapy with a variety of complementary modalities that assist the healing process. These may include mindfulness, breath-work, yoga, energy psychology, energy medicine, guided imagery, biofeedback, exercise, EMDR, eco-therapy, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and supplements. She tailors techniques based on the needs and interests of her patients. She continually seeks to learn about additional modalities through research and training opportunities that serve to enhance the healing process.
Her passion is in guiding, supporting, and teaching her patients self-care techniques that help balance their bodies and minds, thus empowering them to take an active role in their own unique healing journeys on the road to optimal health. These skills may also help in reducing and often eliminating the need for medications.
Dr. Skillicorn graduated from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and is Board Certified in Psychiatry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine (ABIHM). She completed a psychiatry residency at Northeastern Ohio University Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacology (NEOUCOM), where she served as chief resident. Prior to opening her own practice, she cared for patients through Summa Psychiatry Associates in Akron and Alternative Paths in Medina.
Dr. Skillicorn is a member of the American Holistic Medical Association, American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine, Climate Psychology Alliance, and the American Psychiatry Association. She has trained in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy with Zindell Segal; Mind-Body Skills through the Center of Mind-Body Medicine at Georgetown University; Attachment-Based EMDR with Laurel Parnell, and Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy through the Cleveland Clinic. She has been practicing yoga, qi gong, and meditation for the past 30 years. She is the author of the book, Healing Depression without Medications: A Psychiatrist's Guide to Balancing Mind, Body, and Soul, which is available at link below.
